FLAVORS / TASTE
Perfect Keto doesn’t offer much variety in their line of whey protein shakes – as they only come in Chocolate, Vanilla and Unflavored. However, people seem to really enjoy the taste and texture of the keto shakes.
Here are some helpful highlights from Perfect Keto shakes reviews:
- The Vanilla tastes like ice cream (probably due to the fat & MCT content)
- I love the shake powder mixed with Greek yogurt and raspberries on top
- The Chocolate flavor tastes like chocolate milk
- The protein powders blend well in my coffee
- The Chocolate can be used as a healthy hot cocoa
- They’re not gritty or thick
The good news is, the price of these shakes won’t put a dent in your wallet like some of the competing shakes will. On the Perfect Keto site, the keto protein powder is $38.99 for 20 servings (coming to $1.95 per serving).
But does the lower price of this shake mean lesser quality?! Read on to find out the unique qualities of this keto protein powder so you can determine if it’s right for you…
A quick glance at the Perfect Keto Whey Shake label reveals that there are VERY few ingredients in this shake. Although we definitely advise against protein powders that contain chemical additives and added fillers, we’re left wondering if there are enough essential ingredients in this shake to help you meet your goals.*
At 100 calories per shake serving, this shake is a great choice to help you lose weight and maintain a healthy weight when it comes to daily calories. Although calories aren’t as important if you’re following a lazy keto diet (where you only keep track of the number of carbs you eat each day), if you’re doing regular keto, all your macros will be important, as well as calories. (1)
If you aren’t doing lazy keto, you’re likely tracking all the food you eat using a keto tracking app. Doing this can take time, and having a low calorie keto protein shake that is only 100 calories per shake serving can definitely help you stay on track with less effort. It’s also great for busy schedules and on-the-go.
The protein amount that you should aim for in your ketogenic shake is about 15-20g per shake serving. On a keto diet, you want protein to account for 20-25% of your daily calories (a moderate amount). This is on the higher end of the protein recommendations set out by the Institute of Medicine for a normal diet, which is to make protein about 10-35 percent of your calories. (2)
Studies show that most people typically fall on the lower end of the spectrum in the amount of protein they eat, therefore you may need to up your protein to meet your keto goals. Diet shakes are a great way to do that, and the Perfect Keto Shake contains 15g of high-quality protein per serving, so it’s a great option in this realm.*
The type of protein used is also one of the most important aspects of meal replacement shakes. Fortunately, this is one of the strong points of Perfect Keto shakes. Although we like to see plant-based protein powders used due to the wide-range of added health benefits, if a company is going to use whey protein, grass-fed whey is one of the best options.
This is because grass-fed whey offers much more nutrients than whey made from grain-fed cow’s milk. You probably don’t realize it, but the grass in natural pastures where cows are supposed to roam contain a plethora of beneficial nutrients your body needs.
Do to this, grass-fed whey is full of omega-3 fatty acids – which offer powerful anti-inflammatory benefits to the body. Omega-3 fats are essential to great health and are known to specifically support good heart health. In addition, grass-fed whey is also a great source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an omega-6 fatty acid that offers a range of health benefits including that it may help you lose weight. (3)
Moving onto the fiber content in these keto protein shakes, it’s mysteriously missing from the product label. Fiber is an important part of all healthy diets, as it helps enhance digestive processes, and prevents constipation, gas, and other GI issues that can sometimes happen on a keto diet. It’s also supports your heart health and may help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
Therefore, it’s important to get enough fiber in your day when you’re on a keto diet – which can often be hard to do since you’re required to cut out whole grains, beans, legumes, most fruits and even some veggies. Keto protein powders are typically a fantastic way to help you get enough fiber in your day while following the strict dietary plan; However, the lack of fiber in Perfect Keto shakes is definitely a strike against it.
Since the Perfect Keto powder is meant to fit seamlessly into a ketogenic diet, the carb count is important. With only 2g of total carbs, the shake will fit nicely into a low-carb diet plan. And the net carbs would be the same as the total carbs in this case since there isn’t any fiber on the label; Typically, you get net carbs from subtracting the fiber from the total carbs.
We think that Perfect Keto missed out on the opportunity to provide much-needed fiber in this ketogenic shake – but nonetheless, it will meet your low-calorie goals.
You want to avoid sugary foods on any healthy diet, and especially on keto, since they’re obviously high in carbs and will spike your blood sugar levels. Due to this, there is no sugar in Perfect Keto shakes, which is ideal.
Perfect Keto uses Stevia in their shakes to give them their sweetness – which is a plant-based sugar alternative that will not spike blood sugar. Some studies also show that it will not increase your hunger like regular sugar does. (4)
Since we’re talking about diet shakes that you want to use on a keto diet, fat is obviously an important aspect, since 70-75% of your daily calories should come from fat. The source of the fat is also important – and Perfect Keto gets both of these right in their keto shakes.
The shakes contain 4g of fat (all saturated fat), and 5,000mg of Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). If you aren’t familiar with MCTs, they’re a staple on the keto diet – and can usually be found in the form of MCT Oil.
MCTs are medium chain fats found in coconut and palm oils, which get instantly absorbed into the body much faster than longer chain fats. Do this this, MCTs provide an instant burst of energy to the body and fuel to the brain. They also help your body enter ketosis more quickly –
the goal of the keto diet, where your body burns fat (or ketones) for fuel instead of glucose (or carbs).
Although the Perfect Keto Shake is great when it comes to carb and fat content, there are no added vitamins, minerals, superfoods or probiotics included in these ketogenic shakes. This is one of the main reasons that we don’t recommend you use Perfect Keto Shakes as meal replacements.
It can already be difficult to get all of the nutrients you need on a daily basis into your day when you eat such a low amount of carbs on keto. That’s why you need a keto-friendly meal replacement shake that’s also jam-packed with superfoods, antioxidants, natural digestive enzymes, vitamins, minerals and more.
HOW TO USE THIS SHAKE
Even though Perfect Keto mentions on their website that you can use this shake as a meal replacement, we disagree. However, you can enjoy it as a snack in between meals, as a method for getting extra protein into your day, or as a pre-or post-workout shake to boost energy and help with muscle recovery.
To use it, blend it up with just water or another beverage such as almond milk. You can also add other foods into your smoothie, such as avocado, to up your fat content on keto even more.
Perfect Keto provides a line of keto-friendly products that help people succeed on the strict diet plan. These include a whey protein shake power, collagen powder, ketone base, keto food items and a keto testing kit.
If you’re looking for a quick way to sustain your hunger in between meals while staying in ketosis (and upping your protein intake), Perfect Keto shakes may work for you. However, compared to other keto-friendly shakes on our site, they’re lacking in some areas. There is no fiber, vitamins, minerals, superfoods or other added ingredients to bolster health such as probiotics.
However, the shakes are a great price and include MCT Oil – which can help keto dieters get into ketosis. In addition, most of the Perfect Keto Shake Reviews mention that the protein powders taste pretty awesome, which is definitely a huge plus.
