In addition to their weight-loss programs, Medifast has a line of meal-replacement shakes that come in a variety of flavors.  The fact that there are so many different flavor options to pick from make this shake quite popular, but having flavor options doesn’t say much about how great the product is itself.

Upon investigating the ingredients used, it was disappointing to see that this product has a soy-protein base, which is very common in meal-replacement shakes but unideal nonetheless, due to recent controversial health issues linked with the use of soy in food and beverage products.  This shake also utilizes milk isolate, fructose, artificial flavors and Acesulfame potassium.  These ingredients are controversial for a variety of reasons.  Milk isolate is an allergen, so we prefer to stay away from products containing this form of protein.  Fructose can cause fatty tissue to form and contribute to weight gain.  Artificial flavors can have side effects ranging from headaches, fatigue, brain damage, nausea, seizures and more.  Acesulfame potassium contains methylene chloride, which is a carcinogen which has side effects including nausea, headaches, liver and kidney problems, eyesight issues and possibly cancer.

In conclusion, Medifast may have some effective weight-loss programs, but as far as shakes go, this product is subpar.
